Tom's older brother Bill posted this on FaceBook on June 14:

Wishing my younger brother Tom (class of MHS '60 a very Happy Birthday. Tom recently suffered a stroke, and is recovering in Bethesda hospital in Cincinnati. He could use your prayers and best wishes for a full recovery. At the present, he is partially paralyzed on one side, but his wife Ruthie is encouraged about his recovery process at this time. Please join me in wishing Tom a full and complete recovery. Luv ya Bro.

Received this note from Tom's wife though Bill today (6/25/13):

He was approved to stay at Bethesda through next Monday.  We heard last
Wednesday afternoon that he was approved to stay through Monday, so by the
time you hear from them, it's almost time for another hospital report.  I'm
just not going to worry about this.  What will be will be.

He has had some aching of his left arm which means he has more nerve
revitalization, and I watched him walk using a railing and a therapist on
the other side to support him.  His speech therapist helps him with focus
and problem solving activities.  His attention is always better in the
morning, and he remembers to pay attention to his left side better.  It's so
strange, but the brain just seems to not remember that his left side exists.
If he is circling or highlighting a sentence, he may only circle part of it,
just ignoring the beginning or left side of it.  It's not his eyesight, it's
the brain trying to cope with this big injury.

Jack the Cat is playing new tricks at home while his dad is away.  He's
taken to removing the register covers so he can stick his paw down the hole.
He needs to get out more.  He will, this weekend.

Thanks for all your support and nice words.
Ruthie
